How to Measure for Men's Suits
A men's suit is a great investment for a man’s wardrobe. Getting the measurements for a suit can aid in purchasing a suit online, in stores or having one custom made. Taking the time to measure for a men's suit will ensure a perfect fit and show that care of appearance is important.
- Measure the chest by holding the tape right under the armpits across the nipples. This is the fullest part of the body. The tape should be held snug; tight enough that it does not slip down but not so tight that you cannot breathe.
- Measure from the end of the right shoulder to the end of the left shoulder for your shoulder measurement.
- Measure from the point where your neck meets your back to just beneath the curve of your buttocks. This is the length of the jacket for your suit.
- Take sleeve measurements by measuring from the top of your shoulder to the point where your thumb meets your index finger. Do this for both the right and left arms.
- Measure around your waist where you would normally where a belt. Make sure that the tape is comfortably loose. A good idea when measuring waist size is to measure over a dress shirt.
- Measure the outside of your leg from your waist to the bottom of your leg. Make sure that tape is held tight and your leg is straight. This is your outside seam length.
- Measure from the lowest part of your crotch to the end of the leg. Just like the outside seam measurement, make sure your leg is straight. This is your inseam measurement.
