How to Measure for New Construction Windows
For a newly constructed home or office building, you'll need accurate measurements in order to purchase proper fitting windows. For the most accurate measurement you need to take measurements at the top, center and bottom of the horizontal width as well as three vertical measurements for the height at the left, center and right as well.
What You'll Need:
- Steel measuring tape
- Pencil
- Paper
- Insert the end of a steel measuring tape onto the deepest portion of the window jamb, right at the upper right side of the window frame. Pull the measuring tape downward toward the lower edge of the frame at the sill. Record the measurement as the height for the right side of the window.
- Use measuring tape to measure the height on the left side of the window as well as the center height. Use the previous process to complete this step. You'll need to record these measurements as well.
- Insert the end of a steel measuring tape in the deepest portion of the window jamb, right at the lower left side of the window frame. Pull the measuring tape horizontally toward the right side jamb of the window frame. Record this measurement as the bottom window width.
- Measure the middle and top of the window width. Use the previous process to complete this step. You'll need to record these measurements as well. Keep all of the recorded measurements in a safe place, as you will need to reference them later.
- Take the smallest width measurement and the smallest height measurement along with you to purchase your replacement windows for your home or office.
