How to Measure for Plus Size Garters
Garters are no longer a necessity as they were in the 16th century. Many women like to still wear them on special occasions as well as every daywear to help keep their shape. When measuring for a plus size garter, measurements are extremely important so that the garment will fit correctly.
- Stand in front of the mirror in your underwear. Wearing clothing while attempting to take proper measurements will make the garter fit incorrectly as it is meant to be worn under your clothing not over them.
- Using a fabric tape measure, wrap it around your waist. Make sure that the tape is straight and even all around your body. Twisting the tape can give you a different size than you want. If someone is available to help you measure such as the seamstress that would be creating the garter or a friend that would be most helpful. Don't pull the tape measure tight until it cuts into your skin. This gives an inaccurate measurement.
- Next, measure one of your upper thighs. Make sure you are measuring in the area where it is the biggest. Before recording the measurement, make sure that the tape isn't twisted.
- Measure your abdomen next. If your abdomen is larger than your stomach, it is advised that you get a size larger than you would normally wear for the best fit possible. Make sure you are measuring the area that is the biggest. Measuring smaller parts of your abdomen will only make it uncomfortable to wear and difficult to put on.
