Meeting someone in person who you met on the Internet can be both exciting and terrifying at the same time. As with meeting anyone new there are risks involved and you need take the necessary precautions. This will ensure you keep yourself safe. Learn how to properly meet your online pursuit for the first time.

  1. Make sure that you don't give too much information on your online site such as your last name, where you go to school, where you work, ect. By putting too much information on your profile, someone that you don't know could find you.

  2. Tell someone the date and time that you are going to meet the individual. Make sure that it is in a public place and not a private house or apartment.

  3. Do a background check on the person that you are meeting. You can do this by searching details online, asking around school or looking in the phone book. Be creative, Google your date’s name and location and search Facebook.

  4. Call the person that you are going to meet by calling the number that they gave you. Make sure that you shut your caller ID off. You should call them and not text because when you call them you can hear their voice.

  5. Get to know the person by talking to them over the phone before you make the plunge into meeting them in person. This can go on as long as a minimum of two weeks, but can go longer if you want.

  6. Meet the person a few more times under these circumstances, until you feel safe enough around them. Once you feel safe and learn more about your date, you can then choose more intimate settings.
