Supplies

- Respirator
- Bucket
- Primer
- Paint thinner
- Paint suit
- Move the car where you are going to paint it. Make sure it is inside a garage or other structure, in case it rains.
- Make sure your car is ready for priming. All dents should be removed from the car, and areas of the car not being primed should be covered. The area being primed should be completely clean. If any dirt is left on the car, the primer will not adhere to it. Completely wash and dry the area you are going to prime. Allow it to completely air dry before you begin.
- Gather all of your materials and have them close to you. Put on your paint suit and hair cap to protect your hair and clothes.
- Put paint thinner and single primer into a bucket. Follow the directions on the paint thinner you purchase, but in most cases primer is a 2 to 1 ratio.
- Mix the paint thinner and primer using a paint stick. Make sure it is mixed thoroughly before you begin. If the primer is not mixed well, it will not adhere to the car’s surface. Make sure you wear a face mask when mixing the primer. The fumes from the primer and thinner can cause respiratory problems.
