How to Mix Colors for Paints
Creating the perfect color of paint will help you to create the precise type of atmosphere you are looking for in a room. By mixing different hues together you will be able to move beyond the primary colors and thus expand your means of expression at the same time. With a little know-how this is something anyone can do.
- Squeeze some of blue, yellow and red paint onto the palette that you are making. This should create a triangle without any of its points connecting.
- Add the other colors of paint around the outside of your palette in round spots.
- Move some yellow paint halfway towards the red and stop.
- Wash your brush.
- Dip your brush into the red paint and mix it about halfway into the yellow paint.
- Brush this back into your red paint.
- Dip your clean brush into the red paint and move it halfway towards the blue paint.
- Brush your blue paint into your red paint.
- Mix some black into the paints to make your colors darker. This will also make your paints look flat. If you don’t want them to be flat, use purple instead.
- Add some white to the paint colors to make them lighter.
- Add red to the paint colors to make them brighter.
- Add some yellow and red to the paint to make the colors more vibrant.
