How to Move Large Farm Animals

It is necessary for farmers to move one or more large farm animals at times to transport them. This is usually accomplished with the help of a large truck or other large vehicle that has been set up to transport animals. There are some things that farmers can do to make this process easier.

  • Train your animals from the beginning to follow you. An animal that is properly trained to follow their owner wherever they need them to go will be much easier to move. Work on training them in small sessions on a daily basis to ensure maximum results. You may want to give the animals treats and praise as a reward method for doing what you want them to do during the training sessions.

  • Stand on the left side of a farm animal when trying to lead them. Place your right hand on the shoulder of the animal and the harness that is attached to the farm animal in your left hand.

  • Prepare yourself for a reluctant animal by wearing protective gear just in case. You want to wear a hard hat as well as safety goggles to protect yourself just in case there is a problem. Animals can be unpredictable at times, and you are better off safe than sorry.

  • Enlist the help of another worker if you are dealing with a large farm animal that does not want to be lead. You can have one person pole the animal with a prodding stick while you led it where you want it to go.

  • Socialize your animals if you plan on transporting them to areas where there are going to be a large amount of people. Animals that are not properly socialized will resist being led to an area where there are a lot of people.

  • Block the view of large farm animals so that they can only see directly in front of them. Their natural instincts will lead them in the direction that you want them to go, because this is the only direction that they can see is safe.
