How to Mulch Yard Waste
Each time you mow the lawn clippings may get left behind, or when you experience a strong thunderstorm you might see tree limbs laying in the yard. There are a couple different ways that you can mulch away yard waste with the proper equipment and little elbow grease.
- Look at any leaves lying on the ground to make sure that there isn’t any fungus or disease on them. If you see any fungus or disease, do not use the leaves as mulch. It can contaminate other plants.
- Rake up all of the leaves in your yard and roll over them with the lawnmower to shred them into tiny bits. You can place the mulched leaves around other plants or trees to help them retain moisture and block out pests.
- Take a rake and evenly spread out all of the grass clippings you see after mowing your lawn. When you do this, it can make your grass grow in thicker and healthier. You also should not have to cut the grass as often after performing this method.
- Pick up all of the tree branches and twigs you see and throw them into your wood chipper. You can use all of the chips to place in your garden. Wood chips can provide a nice smell and appearance to a garden. They will also serve to keep plants wet, prevent weeds and discourage some pests.
- Scoop up any animal feces and place it in a compost pile. You can use manure to provide plants with extra nutrients.
