How to Negotiate Rates With International Moving Companies

Moving internationally can be far more stressful than simply moving to another state or across town.  To make this move as smooth as possible, you will want to hire an international moving company that can get the job done efficiently.  Reputable international moving companies can be found on MerchantCircle.  Once you find the perfect company, you will need to know how to negotiate rates.

  • Get quotes from other international moving companies.  Compare the rates of other companies with the prices set by the company you wish to hire.  Most businesses will meet or beat competitor prices upon request.

  • Provide copies of other quotes.  When the prices are in writing, it is difficult for a moving company to say that you misunderstood a price.

  • Discuss rates before signing a contract.  You need to understand the charges in detail.  Look at the contract, line by line.  Check for prices you may be able to negotiate.  For instance, you may be charged a fee for boxes.  Ask to have that fee removed if you supply the boxes.

  • Check to see how the moving crew is being paid.  You can ask for fewer staff personnel to save money.  For example, if the company has three movers working five hours, the total cost at $10 per hour is $150.  Having only two movers taking an additional two hours would cost $140.

  • Talk with a representative face-to-face.  This is an effective way to get to know the staff and ask for personal rates.  People are usually willing to work with you in person rather than over the phone or on the computer.

  • Ask the moving company if their price is the best price they have?  If the company wants your business, they may be willing to negotiate a price.  You may have to do some of the work yourself, but you will save some money in the process.
