How to Not Lose Your Wallet at a Theme Park

Losing your wallet at a theme park can be devastating and frustrating. Unless an honest person finds and turns it into the park's lost and found department the odds of finding your wallet are slim. The best way to avoid lossing your wallet at a theme park is to keep it in a safe place or attached to your clothing.

  • Use a chain or lanyard to attach your wallet to the belt loop or pocket of your pants.  If you wallet does happen to fall out of your pocket, the chain or lanyard will help keep it close to you. Check often to make sure the chain or lanyard is securely attached to your pants and your wallet. Certain rides may require you to tuck the chain or lanyard completely into your pocket. Follow these rules, as items that hang from the riders are known to cause accidents and injuries.

  • Consider renting a locker to keep your wallet in while you are riding rides or walking around the amusement park. Lockers are usually located near park exits, food courts and restrooms. Talk to a park attendant to find out where you can rent a locker and the costs associated with the rental. When you need to get something from your wallet, visit the locker and remove the cash or card you need and replace it when you are finished.

  • Leave your wallet at home or in a locked car. Plan a budget for your day at the amusement park and only bring one credit card or an amount of cash that can be kept in your pocket or another safe place. This will prevent you from losing the other contents of your wallet like your driver’s license or insurance cards.

  • Keep your wallet in a fanny pack, purse or other small bag that can be attached to you or carried on your arm.  These items are less likely to be lost and allow you to keep your wallet with you at all times without the risk of it falling from your pocket.

  • Keep a piece of paper with your cell phone number and other contact information written on it inside your wallet in plain view. If you happen to drop your wallet, the person that finds it can locate your contact information without having to rummage through the wallet and possibly losing items that are inside. If you realize you have dropped your wallet, go straight to the lost and found to see if it has been turned it. Be ready to describe the appearance of your wallet as well as some of its contents.

  • If you plan to keep your wallet in your shirt or pants pocket, avoid wearing clothing that is too lose. You want to be able to feel your wallet against you at all times, so if it happens to fall out of your pocket you will realize it soon. If you have clothing with pockets on the inside, keep your wallet there.
