How to Obtain Past Year IRS Forms
There are three different ways that you can contact the Internal Revenue Service to get your prior year tax information. The IRS allows you to request your tax information via their online website, or by calling them and requesting that they mail you the information or by filling out a F4506T form and mailing it into the IRS. These options are designed to make it easier for the taxpayers to access the information.
Online
1. Connect to the Internal Revenue Service website online.
2. Click on the Internal Revenue Service search bar and type “Order a Transcript.” Click on the "Order a Transcription" search result to go directly to the ordering page.
3. Fill out the information requested. This will include your social security number, address, name and date of birth. Click on the type of tax form you want sent to you and the tax year.
4. Receive the form in the mail within five to ten business days.
By Phone
1. Call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040.
2. Follow the automated prompts when the IRS answers the phone call.
3. Request the tax forms for the year that you need it.
4. Receive the tax form in the mail within five to ten business days.
By Mail
1. Get a copy of the form F4506T online at the IRS website or from a person that completes tax information.
2. Fill out the form completely in blue or black ink.
3. Mail the form to the address listed on the form. It will take longer for you to get the information by mail because the Internal Revenue Service will need time to process it. This request could take four to six weeks.
