How to Obtain a Microsoft Certification in Help Desk Support
Information technology support technicians are very valuable to employers. Earning a Microsoft help support certification will allow you to earn a nice wage. There are a few ways you can practice on Microsoft products to help you earn a certificate before you take the test.
Things You'll Need:
- Microsoft Software
- Practice Computer
- Microsoft User Manuals
- Notebook
- Pen
- Practice uninstalling and installing windows programs on your computer or a practice computer. You probably should find a practice computer instead of your own just in case you mess things up.
- Read user manuals of as many Microsoft products as you can. You'll learn a lot by performing the tasks on your own, but also learn a lot by reading. You should be able to find user manuals online to download and print off. Take detailed notes of the user manuals in a notebook. Writing procedures down will help you remember them better.
- Find where you can take the Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST) test when you feel you have enough practice. Ask a local university where these tests are located if you're having trouble finding the location. There obviously will be a fee and a registration form that you need to fill out prior to taking the test. Make sure you can make the test at the time it takes place. These tests are probably only offered a few times a year at the most.
- Wait until you find out your test results. Take the test again if you failed and start applying for jobs if you passed. Don't panic if you failed, just prepare to take it again.
