How to Open an Online Bank Account

Opening an online bank account is a convenient way to keep track of financial transactions. Comparing different online accounts is the best way to find one that has the features the account holder wants. The fee for using an online account is one of the things the account holder will need to find out before choosing a bank.

  1. Decide which bank to use for an online bank account. Go online to read different customer reviews and to compare different account features to choose the right bank. Make sure to also find out the fees that the bank charges before you open the account. Choose a bank that has a branch in your city if you want to make your account deposits locally.

  2. Go to the website of the bank you choose for your online account. Look for the new account link on the website and click it. Follow the prompts to choose the type of account you want to open online.

  3. Fill in your personal information on the account form. Make sure that you double check your social security number and birth date before you submit the form. Look for an email confirmation from the bank after you submit your information. Contact the bank if you do not get an email that includes your account number.

  4. Find out how to fund your online bank account. If the bank you are using has an office in your city you can deposit funds into your account by stopping by the local branch. Order your checks if you are opening a checking account or order deposit slips if you are opening a savings account.

  5. Learn how to read your online account statement. Most online account statements are easy to interpret, so you should not have any problems tracking your transactions. You may also be able to have a paper statement mailed to you if the bank offers that option.
