How to Operate an Auto Repair Shop
Once you have secured your location and set up your auto repair shop it is time to start operating your business. In order to properly operate your auto repair shop you need an understanding of this market and to gain an edge over your competition.
- Conduct a market analysis of your local market. Determine what other auto repair shops are charging for repairs. Determine which of these local auto repair shops are the most successful.
- Set your repairs and services at a competitive price. Do not price these repairs and services too low as to prevent you from making a profit but do set these prices close to that of your competition.
- Advertise your business. If possible hire a marketing consultant to aid you in launching an aggressive marketing campaign. This campaign could include print or television ads and should include marketing online.
- Ensure that applicants who seek employment at your auto repair shop are adequately trained in your offered repairs and services. If you have specific procedures to follow when making these repairs and performing these services ensure that these applicants once hired are trained in these procedures.
- Ensure that you have adequate insurance to cover your business, your employees and automobiles in which you perform repairs and services.
- Setup adequate accounting procedures. You could hire a seasoned bookkeeper to prepare your books or you could use accounting software to do this task yourself.
- Conduct promotional events when affordable. These promotional events could include a discounted service in addition to a full price service or other repair. This concept is a good way to draw attention to your business. You could even advertise this event on the radio.
