How to Order Essential Oils
Essential oils are aromatic oils that are useful for a number of purposes, such as scenting your home and body products or for their therapeutic properties. Because of its increasingly popular nature, there are companies that sell low quality oils simply to make a profit. For this reason, care should be taken when placing an order for essential oils.
- Research essential oils before making a purchase. Different oils have different properties and the proper knowledge can help you make an informed decision on which is best for your needs.
- Shop the Internet using “Essential Oils” in the search engine. Search results will reveal websites for aromatherapy shops and other retailers of essential oils. Catalogs and independent vendors present an even greater variety of choices.
- Read the description of the oils that you want to order. It should say that they are 100 percent essential oils or pure essential oils. Anything else, even the term “aromatherapy oil,” may be an indication that there are chemicals present. The description should also provide information such as the botanical Latin names as well as the extraction method.
- Look at the bottle or for the bottle's description. Avoid buying essential oils that are sold in clear bottles as they are sensitive to light damage. Buy bottles that are a dark color, generally blue or brown. Additionally, the bottles should be glass as the essential oils will break down plastic, resulting in contamination.
- Look for assurance that the essential oils are tested. If there is no guarantee on the website or catalog contact customer service for clarification before placing your order.
- Make your initial order a small one. Avoid ordering large quantities if it is your first time ordering from a particular company. Verify what, if any, return policy is in place.
