How to Organize Shelves With Baskets for Home Storage
Organizing your home is one of the biggest challenges in keeping your home cleaned. The kitchen, bathroom and pantry are areas where shelves have probably been added to help keep things organized. Although things tend to get a little clutter all jammed on a shelf, baskets can make this partially organized area look perfect.
- Measure your shelves. You need to make sure you get the right size baskets.
- Avoid baskets with a handle that stand like an arch on the sides. Baskets with handholds work best. You can also get some with cloth liners. This makes for easy clean up if any thing spills inside the basket.
- Purchase some heavy duty baskets. You may have to pay a little more for strong baskets, but it is worth it. You will be pulling these baskets in and out all day; they need to last a while. You can purchase baskets at any retail, home improvement or home décor store.
- Take everything off the shelves. You should have the entire area empty. Do all the shelves at the same time, rather one by one. This will help your organize everything and put it in a designated basket, not just the shelf it was on.
- Set the baskets on the shelves. This is somewhat like putting a puzzle together, only there is no wrong or right way to complete it. Put the baskets where you like them. You can vary the way the baskets are set up to fit the space on the shelves.
- Put items in the baskets. Small items should be in the same basket as other small items. Categorizing your items will help keep it organized and functional.
- Reorganize the baskets as needed. If you find that you are always reaching up to get a basket, consider putting it on a lower shelf. Moving baskets will be much easier than clearing entire shelves.
