How to Overcome a Fast Food Addiction

Fast food is believed to cause many health problems. This is a reason to want to break the habit of eating fast food. Some researchers believe that the salt and fat in fast food releases the same chemicals as in certain drugs. There are many things that can be done to break a fast food addiction so you can stay healthy.

How to Overcome a Fast Food Addiction

1. Make a list of reasons why fast food is not good for you. You could list things such as cost or how it makes you put on weight. Read the list regularly to remind yourself why you are breaking the cycle of eating fast food.

2. Look at your bank statement and calculate how much you spend on fast food. Make plans to spend less. Some people do not realize how much they spend on fast food until they actually see it.

3. Do research on the Internet about nutritional information on the fast foods you eat. Add up how many calories you eat in one day when eating out. Remember that 3,500 calories equal 1 pound of body fat.

4. Take in mental pictures of what it looks like to eat fast food. Look at the people and employees in the establishment who are obese. Decide if that is what you want to look like.

5. Substitute healthy items for each fast food item. For example, bring along an orange to eat in place of the fries. You will be able to wean yourself off of the fast food this way.

6. Consider other ways to eat. Think about going to a salad bar or soup bar instead of fast food restaurants. Visit the deli section in your local supermarket instead.
