How to Package Valentine's Day Flowers

When it comes to Valentine's Day flowers, the packaging can be as important and as sentimental as the flowers themselves. Use creative items as vases, or wrap the flowers in a unique patterned paper for a fresh look when they are delivered.

  1. Look for a unique vessel to hold the flowers. Think outside the box and use items from around the house. Large jars can be wrapped with ribbon for a homespun look, or place flowers inside wine bottles or glass milk bottles. Try priming, then painting the bottle a solid color and use coordinating ribbons to jazz it up.

  2. Glue crystals to the outside of your vase. Choose a simple vase design, then add crystal embellishments in a design of your choice. Self-stick crystals are available at craft stores.

  3. Use a metal pail for the flowers. Decorate the pail with old jewelry by removing the back hardware from the jewelry and gluing onto a magnet instead. This method works especially well with large brooches with multi-colored stones, and the jeweled magnets can be transferred to the refrigerator after the flowers have wilted.

  4. Use plain brown wrapping paper that has been decorated with stickers or art. Use designs that are meaningful to the recipient and wrap the flowers in a cone-shaped way. Tie with twine.

  5. Fill a clear glass vase with lemons or limes. Add water and flowers to the container. Finish the packaging with a raffia ribbon tied at the top. If your vase has a small mouth, try using smaller fruits like cranberries. Avoid fruit that crushes easily like raspberries or blackberries. Vases can also be filled with shells or sand for a beachy look, or pebbles and moss for a woodsy look.
