How to Paint Aluminum Storm Windows

An inexpensive way to add a new look to your home without spending a lot of money is painting your aluminum storm windows. This is very easy to achieve and can be done over the weekend with a little patience and spare time.

Things you will need:

  • Scrub brush

  • Soapy water

  • Metal priming paint

  • Exterior paint

  • Paint brush

  • Drop cloth

  1. Scrub the aluminum storm window with the scrub brush and soapy water. Make sure you get all the dirt and debris off of the window before you are able to paint it.

  2. Get a clean cloth and rinse the window off with clean water. Let the window dry completely before moving on to the next steps.

  3. Place drop cloths down and place the storm window on it. If you chose to paint the windows while they are still hanging up you will need to apply painters tape around the window to avoid any paint getting on the side of the home.

  4. Using your paintbrush apply the metal priming paint to the window.

  5. Let it dry overnight to make sure that it is completely dry before moving on.

  6. Look over the aluminum and make sure that the primer has covered every spot. If there are any spots that are missing the primer it will need to be painted over again.

  7. Get a paintbrush and paint the aluminum storm windows with the exterior paint.

  8. Let it dry overnight. Check it in the morning to make sure that the paint is completely dry.

  9. Apply a second coat of the exterior paint. Let the second coat dry completely before going on to the next step.

  10. Install the windows back into place.
