How to Paint Brick Siding
Brick siding is a veneer of real brick but does not provide structural support for the house. Its primary purpose is to make the house look as if it were constructed of actual brick. Homeowners often paint brick siding to match the walls of the house.
Things You'll Need:
- Garden hose
- Detergent
- Nylon brush
- Primer
- Paint
- Paint rollers
- Concrete filler
- Dropcloths
- Painter’s tape
- Rinse the brick siding with a garden hose to remove most surface debris.
- Prepare a mixture of strong detergent according to the manufacturer's instructions. The side of the house will typically require 2 pounds of dry detergent.
- Wash the side of the house with the detergent mixture, and allow it to soak for at least five minutes.
- Remove the remaining surface debris from the brick siding with a stiff nylon brush. Some parts of the brick siding may require a special effort to clean.
- Rinse the brick siding with the garden hose again.
- Repair any cracks or holes in the brick siding with concrete filler according to the manufacturer's instructions.
- Place dropcloths under the brick siding as needed to prevent paint from dripping onto the grass and sidewalk. Apply painter’s tape to the trim around the doors and windows.
- Apply a coat of latex primer to the brick siding with a paint roller. Allow the primer to dry according to the manufacturer's instructions, usually several hours.
- Apply a coat of latex paint with a fresh roller and allow it to dry. Repeat this step at least once to ensure the brick siding is completely painted.
