How to Paint Parquet Flooring

Materials Needed

  • Broom

  • Bucket

  • Water

  • Liquid dish soap

  • Mop

  • 220 grit sandpaper

  • Palm sander

  • Oil based primer

  • Oil based paint

  • Paint roller

  • Paint tray

  • Paint stirrer

  1. Remove all of the items from the top of the flooring and place them in another area for now. Use a broom to completely remove any dust, dirt or debris.

  2. Fill a bucket with water and a few drops a liquid dish soap to create a cleaner. Mop the entire floor with the cleaner. Rinse the area with clean water and allow it to completely dry.

  3. Attach 220-grit sandpaper to a palm sander. Sand the floor with the sand palmer to remove the top layer of finish. You want to create a rough surface so the paint can properly adhere to it.

  4. Sweep the area again to completely remove the dust. Mop the area with a damp mop and allow the area to completely dry. Any remaining dust or dirt will ruin the look of the paint.

  5. Remove the lid from the primer and pour it into a paint tray. Use a paint roller to apply a thin layer of primer over the entire floor. Allow the floor to dry according to the directions on the label. Apply another coat of primer and allow it to dry.

  6. Open the paint and blend it with a paint stirrer. Pour the paint into a paint tray. Apply the paint over the parquet flooring with a paint roller. Allow the floor to dry for 48 hours before replacing the furniture.
