How to Paint Roof Panels

Consider all of the important parts of the roof panels before you climb and paint them. They will have to be prepped so the paint will adhere to them. You will have to sand, primer and paint them so the work will last a long time.

How to Paint Roof Panels

Materials Needed

  • Power washer

  • Ladder

  • 180 grit sandpaper

  • Palm sander

  • Acrylic latex primer

  • Paint stick

  • Roller with an extension handle

  • Acrylic latex paint

  1. Use a power washer to clean the roof panels. Allow the panels to dry for one complete day. Place your ladder in a safe place. Make sure you can easily and safely. Access the roof panels without having to move too much.

  2. Attach 180-grit sandpaper to a palm sander. Use the sander to sand the entire surface of the panels. Make sure you sand in the direction of the grain in the wood. This will create a rough texture that the paint will adhere better to.

  3. Remove the lid from the can of acrylic latex primer. Blend the primer with a paint stick. Pour the primer in a paint tray. Apply the primer over the panels with a roller that has an extension handle. Allow the area to dry for three hours before proceeding to the next step.

  4. Pry the top off of the can of acrylic latex paint and blend it with a paint stick. Pour the paint into a paint tray. Apply the paint over the roof panels with a roller with an extension handle.
