How to Remove Rust Stains From Wood Siding

How to Paint Wood Siding

When wood siding has become worn or the paint is peeling, it can be restored by painting it. The siding must be properly prepared so the new layers of paint will not wear quickly and adhere better. You will need to set aside plenty of time to remove the old layers of paint.

How to Paint Wood Siding

Materials Needed

  • Powder detergent

  • Mildewcide

  • Power washer

  • Chisel

  • 80-grit sandpaper

  • Palm sander

  • Oil based primer

  • Wood stick

  • Paintbrush

  • Wood filler

  • Putty knife

  • Acrylic paint

  1. Mix the detergent and mildewcide in the power washer. Turn on the power washer and clean the wood siding. Rinse the wood siding with clean water and allow it to completely dry.

  2. Remove any chipped or peeling paint with a chisel. You will need plenty of time for this step because the task can be very tedious.

  3. Cover the palm sander with 80-grit sandpaper and sand the wood siding. Rinse away the sanding particles with the pressure washer and allow the siding to dry.

  4. Open the oil-based primer and mix it with a wooden stick. Use a paintbrush to apply a layer of primer. Allow the primer to set for one entire day.

  5. Fill all of the cracks with wood filler. Use a putty knife to apply the wood filler. Do not apply the filler along the bottom of the wood siding. Allow the filler to dry for one complete day.

  6. Open the acrylic paint and stir it with the wood stick. Use a paintbrush to apply the paint and allow it to completely dry.
