How to Paint Wooden Garden Furniture

Wooden garden furniture is a wonderful and convenient addition to your garden. When painting garden furniture, there are certain things you must do to allow the paint to withstand different weather conditions outside. You can paint your wooden garden furniture successfully by following a few steps.

Items Needed:

  • Soap and water

  • Sanding paper

  • Wood sealer

  • Primer

  • Enamel paint

  • Water proof sealer

  1. Clean each piece of wooden garden furniture with hot soap and water in order to remove any dirt that has built up on the furniture while it was sitting outside.

  2. Sand the furniture lightly to remove any imperfections from the pieces of wood.

  3. Spray the furniture off with a hose to remove any soap and sand that is left of the wooden garden furniture.

  4. Inspect the wooden furniture for any cracks or splinters that are present. You can then apply wood sealant to the flawed wood to get rid of the raised pieces.

  5. Apply a wood primer to the furniture in order to create a smooth painting surface. You can add another layer of primer if the wood is not completely covered by the first coat.

  6. Allow the primer to dry for up to 24 hours before beginning to apply paint to the wooden garden furniture.

  7. Apply the first coat of paint to the furniture. You want to use enamel paint when painting outdoor furniture because this type of paint will better withstand against different weather conditions.

  8. Allow the coats of paint to dry completely before applying the next layers. Continue adding layers until you feel the furniture is covered to your liking.

  9. Add a water proof sealer to the furniture once the paint has dried.

  10. Allow the sealer to dry and place your wooden garden furniture in the garden.
