How to Paint a Bedroom Ceiling

Freshen up your bedroom and give it a new look by painting your bedroom ceiling. You can change the color of your bedroom ceiling to different color from the walls.  Perhaps it was just left out when the walls were painted.  Using a paint roller is the one of the easiest ways to paint your bedroom ceiling.

Things you'll need:

  • Flex latex paint

  • Drop cloths

  • Ladder

  • All-purpose cleaner

  • Bucket

  • Sponge or sponge mop

  • Paint tray

  • Painter's tape

  • Sash brush paintbrush

  • 3 inch wide paintbrush

  • Paint roller with extension

  1. Remove all furniture from the room that you possibly can. Any remaining pieces of furniture in the room just push to the center of the room. Cover the floor with drop cloth and any remaining furniture in the room.

  2. Wash the ceiling to remove any dust, dirt, or cobwebs using an all-purpose cleaner and sponge. Clean the ceiling working in 3-foot-square sections of the ceiling at a time until the whole ceiling is clean. Allow the ceiling to dry for a few hours before you paint it.

  3. Use a sash brush (a paintbrush with bristles going into a pointed edge) to paint around the edges of the ceiling where it meets up with the wall. Use painter's tape if you don’t have a sash brush to line the edges of the wall. Paint a border around the ceiling using a 3-inch paintbrush.

  4. Paint the rest of the ceiling using a paint roller. Work in a-foot-square sections at a time, starting with the farthest corner away from the door. Use large W shapes with the paint roller, as you move the roller back and forth. Add more paint as it is needs to complete the square.

  5. Paint across the entire ceiling until you complete the last square. Let the paint dry for a few hours or longer if needed. Apply a second coat of paint in the same manner if needed.
