How to Pain an Asphalt Tile Roof

  1. Replace any brittle or cracked shingles before applying paint to roof.

  2. Use a water-based primer and sealer to prime the roof for painting. Allow approximately 3 hours for the primer to completely dry. Use a paintbrush to touch up any spots that were missed.

  3. Starting at the top of the roof, apply two coats of roof paint to the roof. This can be done by using a nylon/polyester paintbrush, a high quality 1" nap roller attached to an extension pole, or an airless sprayer. Allow a sufficient amount of drying time between each coat of paint.
