How to Pay Your Cleaning Lady
Paying your cleaning lady is important. If you want her to keep coming back, it is important that she is compensated for her time. There are several different ways that paying your cleaning lady can be done. Here are a few.
- Cash- When you pay your cleaning lady cash; this makes her a 1099 employee. She is in charge of paying her own taxes at the end of the year. This is tax-free money during the year that is given to the cleaning lady at the prearranged pay date.
- Payroll- Setting up a payroll account to pay the cleaning lady is another option that you have. If you have other people that work for you, this may be one of the easiest options because it makes things easier for everyone at tax time. They are already having the money being taken out of their checks and the government already knows that you have employees. When you have a payroll, someone else often handles making out the checks; therefore, it's not something that you usually have to worry about.
- Room and Board- This is not the most common option, however, if you are looking for your home to be spotless and clean all the time, having someone live in your home free of charge and providing them meals is considered payment for keeping your home clean at all times. Most cleaning ladies that live in your home often times do some cooking or other small jobs to make the portion or rent and food costs worth the money.
