How to Pick Roller Skates

Roller-skating is a fun activity and a great way to exercise. Finding the right roller skates to pick out can be a hassle, but is well worth it. The comfort and overall feel and function of the skates all play a role in helping you to skate to your full potential. There are several different things that you can do to pick out the perfect roller skates.

  1. Visit your local skating rink to get and idea of the different types of skates available. Skating rinks have variety of skates that you can try on to help you determine which type of roller skates you like. Look for a skate that feels right and comfortable on your foot.

  2. Find a skate that is the right height and fit for your foot and ankle. Ankle skates provide the most support for your ankles. Boot skates provide less ankle support, but more flexibility for you to move around in your skates.

  3. Look for a skate that has a good stopper. The stopper is what helps you to stop as well as start skating. The stopper should not be too close to the bottom of the wheels, nor should it be too high that it prevents you from being able to stop properly.

  4. Find the right wheels for your skates. Having the right wheels is an important part of roller-skating and play a factor depending upon if you will be skating indoor or outdoor. Medium wheels are good for beginner skaters who skate indoors like in a skating rink. If you are a fast skater hard wheels work really well. Low wheels or soft wheels are great for outdoor skating because they have the best grip.

  5. Do comparison-shopping to get the most for your money. In addition to the price compare the value, features, and comfort of the roller skates. The material and quality of the skates are also important. Ask about different color options if you have a preference. Get all the facts before you buy and purchase the roller skates that suit you best.
