How to Pick Wall Paint
Choosing the right color of paint for your walls can be a long and frustrating process. There are hundreds of colors to choose from and each one creates a different mood in each room. It is important to consider other rooms, furniture, trim and decorations with picking wall paint.
- Choose a color that will look well with the furniture in the room. If you have a lot of dark furniture, you may want to choose a lighter paint color or avoid making the room too dark. If you have white furniture you may want to choose a darker paint color to help make the furniture stand out.
- Consider the paint colors in other rooms, especially the rooms closest to the one you are painting. Although the colors do not have to match, they should also not clash with each other. Try to choose color that creates a subtle transition between each room.
- Find a color that matches the decorations in the room. Consider your curtains, lamps, picture frames and other wall and accent decor. Choose a color that helps the decor stand out and not blend in with it.
- Consider several different shades of the same color. Visit your local paint store and take samples of the colors you like. Hold the samples up to the wall and try to determine which shade you like best. You can also compare the samples to the furniture, decorations and trim in the room to see how it looks with each one.
