How to Pick a Family Doctor
Choosing a family doctor is important. When choosing a doctor you want to choose one that all members of the family will feel comfortable going to. There are many things to take into consideration when selecting a family doctor that is right for you.
- Determine the location of the family doctors office. Is the practice in a convenient location for you and your family members? How long will it take you to get to the office from your job or child’s school if needed?
- Do your research about the family doctor. Find out how long the practice has been established and roughly how many patients are seen a day. You may want to drive by and take notice of how many cars are in the parking lot at different times.
- Visit the location to get a feeling about the atmosphere. See how the lobby is set up and whether or not it meets up to your standards.
- Find out what type of insurance the location takes. You want to select a practice that will indeed accept your medical insurance.
- Select a doctor you and your family feel comfortable seeing. You may want to select a practice that has more than one doctor. If you have men in the family and they are more comfortable with male doctors than they have that option as for the girls in the family.
- Choose a location that takes pride in their patient care. You want to select a location that has their patient’s health care their number one priority. Many locations are out to make a dollar, make sure you feel comfortable with the quality of care.
- Ask other patients about their experiences at the practice. If you know someone that goes to a specific family doctor, ask them if they would recommend him or her. If not you can always catch a patient coming out the office and ask them how they like the doctors. It is always a good idea to draw your own conclusions by your own experience.
