How to Plan a Bedroom Design

Bedroom designing is basically working with limited space to create a beautiful oasis. Most master bedrooms average in size from 11 x 12 through 14 x 15. There are online software programs that help visualize what the bedroom looks like when a certain design is created.

  1. Decide if you are going to rearrange your furniture or purchase new furniture for the bedroom.

  2. Consider creating a themed bedroom. Some themes are a beach theme that uses tan carpet with light blue walls and plants scattered around the room, or a cottage theme that incorporates rustic furniture with pine colored carpet and quilts.

  3. Decide on the placement of the bed. The bed is a main focal point in the bedroom so deciding where the bed belongs is important to the entire design.

  4. Measure the bedroom's dimensions and measure the bed. The exact size helps planning the room design without errors.

  5. Decide what online software tools to use for planning the design. See My Design offers interactive tools to plan the bedroom and visualize the design. Better Homes and Garden's website offers room design tools but the furniture choices are limited so a little imagination is needed.

  6. Decide if you will paint the bedroom and replace the carpeting. You can give the bedroom a new feel without replacing the furniture just by adding some new colors.

  7. Take into consideration the placement of outlets if placing lamps on night stands beside the bed.

  8. Plan the design on paper using pictures of furniture to visualize the design if you prefer not to use computer software.
