How to Plan for Rain When Hosting a Party
As they say, you cannot control Mother Nature. For this reason, it is always important to have a back-up plan when you are preparing for an outdoor party or event. If you have a plan in place, you can host a successful party, no matter the weather. All it takes is a bit of advanced planning.
- Consider the possibility of rain early in your party planning. It is easier to plan for rain and accommodate possible changes if you account for them early on. You might consider adding a rain clause to your invitations, such as an alternate date or location in the event of poor weather.
- Choose a location that will work for your party, no matter the weather. When you are scouting locations for your party, try to select a location that will be able to comfortably accommodate your guests, rain or shine. It is a good idea to have shelter for your guests no matter the weather. If your location does not have any shelter structures, you might consider purchasing tarps or gazebos that you can set up the day of the party. This will allow people to find shade from the sun and cover from the rain. State parks, indoor/outdoor play places and restaurants that feature an outdoor patio can be great options for party locations, and can ensure that your party is a success, no matter the type of weather you have that day.
- Plan for alternate activities. If you have planned outdoor activities, such as a softball game, a talent show or mini golfing, it is important that you have a plan for indoor activities, as well. This will ensure that your guests will be entertained in the event that it rains. If bad weather forces your party indoors, you might consider hosting a movie night, playing charades or inviting your guests to join you for a friendly game of poker.
- Contact your guests early if you decide to cancel your party. If the weather has left you with no option other than canceling your party, contact your guests as soon as possible. Be sure to contact them by phone so that you know for a fact they got your message. Be sure to let them know that the party will be rescheduled at a later time.
