How to Plant Spring Flowers

Spring is a beautiful season for flowers in the gardens, around landscapes and sitting on the window sills of homes. In order to get those beautiful flowers ready for spring, you will need to plant them before the end of the year. Here’s how to plant spring flowers:

  1. Wait until the ground temperature is about 60 degrees.

  2. Purchase good quality seeds or bulbs. Cheap seeds usually produce poor flowers or no flowers at all.

  3. Dig a hole approximately 3 inches deep for seeds or large enough to hold a flower bulb.

  4. Place the seeds or the bulb inside the hole.

  5. Cover the seeds or the bulb with soil.

  6. The seeds and/or bulb will need the winter months to establish a solid root foundation.

  7. Use caution when planting outside. Many types of flowers will not survive a winter frost. You may need to bring your flowers inside to keep them alive throughout the winter months.

  8. Depending on the type of flowers you are growing, you will need to keep the soil watered and in the sunlight. It is important to know about the flowers you area growing because many perennials prefer dry soil in the shade.
