How to Potty Train a Yorkie Teacup Puppy
A Yorkie Teacup dog is a small breed of dog and usually sought after for its size and small sounding bark. Yorkies tend to get fiercely attached to their owners and can be a stubborn and independent breed. They are also notoriously difficult to potty train.
- Take your puppy out every hour. When you first bring home your new puppy, take the dog outside to the bathroom almost every hour. Young puppies can sometimes have undeveloped bladders, thus making it hard for them to hold their urine.
- Confine your puppy to a small space in your house. Confining your puppy to a small space ensures that they are not reliving themselves all over the house. Once a puppy determines something is safe to urinate on, it may be troublesome to try to break the connection.
- Ask your puppy if he or she "needs to go potty." Helping your dog associate a keyword or phrase with going outside to the bathroom can help you and your puppy communicate.
- Praise your dog with excitement when they do relieve themselves outside. When the dog hears the enthusiasm and joy in your voice, they will often want to repeat the action. Say things like, "Good potty!" and give them lots of attention to let them know they did something right.
- Punish your dog for only the accidents you see happening. Punishing your dog for accidents that happened hours ago can be useless as the dog may have already forgotten. If you catch your dog having an accident, firmly say, "No!" and clap your hands or make a loud noise. Never hit or handle your dog in anger.
