How to Prepare for Movers & Packers
When it's time to move, no matter if across town or across the country, professional movers and packers can help you get the job done quickly and efficiently. However, before the big day comes, there are some steps you can take to reduce costs of your move.
- Box up personal items that are important to you. Place them in a strong secure box and label them with a marker. Place them in an area unaccessible to the movers.
- Pack up any electronic equipment that you may own yourself. This includes small kitchen appliances. Disconnect all wires from the items and safely wrap and secure the cords in a smaller box with the item itself.
- Put all your valuables such as jewelry and coins in a separate box. These items should be transported by you since many moving companies do not haul these types of items.
- Group together flammable items such as charcoal lighter fluid and either discard or take them personally to your new location. Do not include them with your household goods for the move. It is also important to remove any gasoline from garden equipment, such as a weed eater or lawn mower.
- Clean out your refrigerator. If you are only moving across town or within a reasonable distance. Stow any perishable foods in a portable ice chest you can take with you. However, if you are moving across the county or a distant area toss out any perishable food.
- Speak with your moving company to verify the moving date and time. This will help you better prepare for services.
