How to Prepare for an Acting School Audition

One of the best things you can do before doing an acting audition is prepare. When a person goes through their act several times it may start to become more natural for them. Going into an acting school audition unprepared can make the experience extra stressful.

  • Understand what type of acting is expected for the part you’re auditioning for. Make sure to speak with the school’s drama instructor about what is expected in the audition before auditioning, if possible. This will allow you to practice the part in the appropriate way.

  • See if the drama school will allow you to do any type of audition you wish. In this case, you may try giving them a variety of different acting styles to show them your versatility. You can try a comedy routine followed by something dramatic.

  • Know how much time you have available to audition. Time your routines to make sure you’re staying within the time limit given to you. Timing is important in acting and the judges will most likely appreciate good timing.

  • Think about what will separate you from the rest of the people auditioning for the acting school. Many people may choose to do something from Shakespeare because he is a very popular playwright.

  • Perform the routine you choose over and over. Practicing may put you at ease when it is time for the performance because you have done the routine so many times. Ask other people with thespian knowledge to critique you and make the necessary adjustments as you practice.
