How to Press Military Uniforms

Military uniforms are required to be pressed in a certain way. It's important to press areas around the creases and seams correctly. Pressing military uniforms shouldn't be that difficult if you have the right type of iron. Make sure you press the uniforms on an ironing board.

Things You'll Need:

  • Ironing Board

  • Starch

  • Iron

  1. Place your ironing board so it comes up to your waist. You don't want to have to bend to far down or have the board to close to your shoulders. Also make sure the board is away from objects that will make it tough to maneuver around.

  2. Spray starch on the uniform and let it dry for about 30 minutes. You shouldn't need a lot of starch, just misting it a little will be enough. Turn the iron on to medium heat while you’re waiting for the starch to settle in the uniform.

  3. Begin ironing your cuffs and collar using the steam setting. Some irons don't have a steam setting so spray a little water on them right before you start pressing.

  4. Press each sleeve but make sure you find the natural crease. Press the crease, but make sure you don't damage the patches on each sleeve.

  5. Press both sides of the jacket, including any pockets. Make sure you iron the crease on the backside of the jacket. There might be other creases that need ironed depending upon what kind of jacket you have.

  6. Iron your pants pockets first before the rest of the pant legs. The pants will also have creases that need pressed.
