How to Price Baby Clothes in a Garage Sale

Children go through clothing sizes quickly. You may find yourself buried in clothes that are too small when your little one is still a toddler. Having a garage sale can be the perfect solution to getting rid of this abundnace of clothes. The trick is pricing baby clothes properly to get rid of the collection while also making a nice stack of cash.

What You Need:

  • Pricing stickers or tags

  • Permanent marker

1. Wash all of the used items you plan to sell at the garage sale. Keep anything with tags on hangers and do not wash. As you are loading them into the washer, check for stains, tears or missing buttons. Ensure that zippers work. If something is in need of repair, determine if it would be worth your time to fix in order to sale.

2. Categorize the baby clothes so that you can take inventory of everything you have. Most clothing types will be priced similarly, so grouping them together before you decide how much to sell them for can make things easier for you.

3. Price clothes that still have their tags at 50 to 75 percent of the sales price. People will see the original price that you paid for the item and know they are getting a deal.

4. Decide on prices for the used clothing depending on their condition, brand name, and clothing type. Full outfits can sell for $5 to $7, and possibly more if they are a well-known, expensive brand. Separate articles of clothing can be priced at $1 to $2. Denim pants tend to sell at a higher price than cotton or knit pants. Sweaters and coats sell higher than t-shirts. Onesies tend to sell cheaply for $0.25 to $0.50 each.

5. Add the price to each item with a sticker or hanging tag and a permanent marker. Be sure to include the size on the sticker so potential customers can quickly reference the size they need.
