How to Price Wedding Photography

When starting your own photography business one of the first items you will include in your business plan is your price list. This price list should include generally sitting fees and portrait package prices as well as special occasion and/or holiday packages.

  1. Calculate the overall cost of supplies. When creating wedding photography packages determine the cost of photo paper, printer ink for producing the photographs and the cost of embossing supplies.

  2. Determine the amount of time it would take you to create each wedding photography package. Determine the amount of time it would take you to shoot all of the required photographs that are included in each package.

  3. Determine the cost of wedding photography packages based on the cost of creating the package and the fee you charge per hour for shooting the photographs. You could charge a flat right for your service as a starting point and then add the cost of the package with the charge for your time.

  4. Determine additional charges for including additional poses or portraits into a wedding photography package. You should calculate this cost in case you have a client who wishes to add more portraits into the offered wedding photography packages. For example, portrait studios take additional photographs to increase sales. After taking these additional photographs, the client could purchase these photographs at an additional cost beyond the package price.

  5. Determine the cost of embossing and/or other decorative additions. Determine the cost based on the cost of these supplies and how long it takes to create them.
