How to Prime a New Engine
If you have a small new engine such as a lawn mower or a bike engine then, you probably need to prime it. Priming a new engine is important because you want the oil to circulate before spinning the engine. It will allow your engine to run smoothly.
Load the tank with gas.
Locate the priming control button which should be found near the carburetor. It is usually a red button, its made of rubber and is always positioned in an reachable area. Press the priming button a small number of times. The gas lines are usually translucent, so you should see fuel running through the lines.
Tug the starting line, or turn the ignition to start the engine. Press the priming button a small number of times, if the engine does not turn over.
Prime a new 5.9 Fuel Engine System
Twist the ignition key to the on position. Pay attention and hear for the electric fuel pump. It should run for at least 20 seconds before turning off.
Reel the engine for one second. Then, put the key back in to the on position and hear for the electric fuel pump. Once more, it will run for 20 seconds before stopping.
Repeat Phase 2. Do it at least four or five times so the fuel system can prime up.
Twist the key and activate the engine. Press down on the fuel pedal. Discharge the key and wait for the starter to cool down for 5 minutes before doing it again. That little segment, only happens if the engine does not start within 10 seconds. You need to repeat this phase.
