How to Print Brochures

Brochures are a great way to showcase a company's ideas and offerings. Brochures can also be made for a class project for school or for personal use to promote a small business. Instead of spending a great deal of money at a printing company, the brochures can be made at home, school or the office.

  • Decide on the print size. This is an important step in the process because it is the most difficult thing to fix if the wrong size is chosen. For instance, if the layout design for the brochure is larger than the printing size of the paper, the resolution will be blurry.

  • Decide which type of paper to use. This will depend on the purpose of the brochure. Business brochures need to have at least an 100 pound stock. If the brochure is for a school class project, then 80 pounds will suffice. The choices of gloss and matte finishes are purely a preference.

  • Consider a varnish for the brochure. This should be done if dark color choices are selected as the varnish will reduce smudging.

  • Expand the design. If the brochure will contain photos and images, then expanding the design approximately 1/4 inch on both sides will ensure that the finished product will have proper ink coverage from end to end.

  • Be creative with the brochure. The brochure should immediately grab the attention of the reader. If the brochure will be on display, it needs to be attractive enough to cause a potential customer to want to pick it up. Use eye catching images, bold colors and convey the information in a concise manner.
