How to Produce Music Videos

Music videos can be done in so many ways. Making a music video does not require mega amounts of money; just use the tools you have to make it interesting. You will need some special equipment or software to make a music video.

Items needed:

  • Computer

  • Movie editing software

  • Mp3 or CD with the song of your choice

  • Camcorder

  • Music playing software (Windows Media Player)

  1. Choose a music composition for your music video. This can be any piece of music, perhaps an original song you wrote. This song will need to be ripped from a cd or recorded directly into your computer.

  2. Create an idea or story to go with the music. The concept for the video can follow the lyrics of the song or take a totally different direction. Sketch, or storyboard, your ideas for what you want to shoot with the camcorder. This will make the shooting process easier.

  3. Use the camcorder to capture the scenes for the music video. Remember you are the director so capture the visions you have in your mind. Do not settle for less or you will hurt the quality of the video. Good actors should be chosen to portray any characters in the video.

  4. Connect your camera to your computer using the USB port and transfer all of the scenes you recorded to it. Edit your favorite scenes together in a way that follow the video's story line. Movie editing software is required for computer video editing.

  5. Mix the song’s audio with the music video footage using the movie editing software. Use the help instructions that came with the software if you’re having trouble using it.

  6. Save the final video.

  7. Create DVD copies or post your video to your blog or other social media website.
