How to Put Hydraulics on Model Cars

Americans have had a fascination with model cars ever since the first automobile was made. Today, many still design and collect the miniature cars as a hobby. There are a variety of kits to choose from and accessories can now be added such as hydraulics.

  • Determine which car the hydraulics will be added to. The hydraulics can be added to any low rider model.

  • Purchase the low rider model kit. These can be purchased at a hobby shop or online.

  • Read the instructions. It is important to read through the directions thoroughly before getting started as this is a rather intricate process and putting too much of the model together before the hydraulics are installed will make it impossible to add later.

  • Test out the hydraulics. Before it gets installed, make sure that it is working properly and has enough power for the model car. It should not be too powerful so that it causes burning, but it does need to be enough to make the car move.

  • Assemble the model car. Follow the instructions for building the model car. Do not  put the model together completely. The hydraulics will need to be installed before the body and frame are mounted together.

  • Connect the hydraulics to the chassis. Line up the frame of the hydraulics to the chassis. Next, use the screws that came in the kit to secure the pieces together.

  • Wire the hydraulics. Connect the wires according to the instructions provided. Make sure to test out each setting on the controller to make sure that the wiring was done correctly.

  • Finish putting the model car together. Once the car is complete, add a gloss paint to resemble the look of a true low rider.
