How to Put Up Long Hair Styles
The decision to wear your hair long is one that provides you with many styling options. Length does, however, have some negatives, particularly during the hot weather months when wearing your hair down can be uncomfortable. Fortunately, long hair can be put up in a number of ways from casual to more complex styles for special occasions.
What You'll Need:
- Brush
- Coated hair band
- Hair pins
- Curling iron
- Holding spray
Into a Ponytail and Bun
- Brush your hair back and away from your face. Determine if you want bangs, a center or side part before you begin to put your hair up.
- Gather your clean, brushed hair into one hand and grasp it firmly. Adjust the height so that the gathered hair is either centered at the back of your head, lower at your nape or higher up. This will depend on the look that you want to achieve. Use your free hand to secure the hair into a ponytail using a coated band.
- Turn the ponytail into a bun by misting it with water and twisting the length of it. Continue to twist the now roped hair until it begins to coil in on itself. Carefully guide and situate it so that it forms a circular bun at the back of your head. Secure the bun in place using hairpins.
Into a French Twist
- Brush your hair back and curl the ends if you prefer to put your hair up into a French roll instead of a ponytail.
- Using a large barreled curling iron, curl the hair so that they are all facing either right or left. This will depend on which direction you want your French twist to face.
- Comb or brush the curls so that they form one large side curl. Starting at your nape begin to twist and tuck your hair in the direction of the curl, in toward your scalp. Work your way up, securing the hair in place using hairpins. Continue until you've reached the top of your head.
- Tuck any remaining hair neatly into the French roll and mist the finished style with holding spray.
