How to Put on Padded Bike Shorts

Padded bike shorts take some time to get used to. They provide more comfort for serious cyclists when compared to non-padded shorts. To get the most benefit from these shorts you have to spend some time learning how to wear them correctly.

There is a lot to putting on a pair of padded bike shorts. You will need to know how to properly wear them so that you can get the most out of your bike rides. A lot of people do not realize that padded bike shorts must be worn in a certain way in order for you to get the most out of them. Here is how you should put on a pair of padded bike shorts.

  • Wash them before you put them on. Follow the instructions on the care tag carefully so that they remain in good condition. You will not need to wear undergarments with these shorts so this is why it is especially important to wash them before you put them on.

  • Take note of where all of the pads are. You will need the pads to be where your body will be in contact with the bicycle seat. Rub on a stick of something that helps prevent chafing. Rub it on in the places where you will be in contact with the seat the most. This in addition to the pads will help you to be the most comfortable. Put the shorts on based on the positioning of the pads.

  • Adjust the shorts once you have put them on. They are a lot like panty hose in that they will need some extra adjusting as they are being pulled on.

  • Stretch and do some knee bends once the shorts are on to ensure that you can move around in them comfortably.
