How to Qualify for Medical Disability

Disability assistance provides coverage to applicants from a wide range of conditions, diseases and illnesses. Unfortunately, there is no set formula for establishing disability claims for applicants. Rather, the process is handled on a case by case basis. When validating claims, several factors comprise the decision.

What You'll Need:

  • Adult disability checklist

  • Medical records

  • Wage details (if employed)

  • Health insurance information

  1. Obtain a disability checklist that details all of the required application information. Having this document will allow you to submit this information along with your supporting documentation to initiate the claim process. This checklist is considered one of the most essential components of the application packet because of the information it includes such as medical results and test, physician contact information, employment history and prescribed medication.

  2. Complete the application, once all information is gathered. You can complete the application at a local Social Security field office or online. An application completed in a local office allows for a better and more personal communication method between yourself and an agent. For the best outcome, a pre-scheduled appointment in the office is the best option.

  3. Undergo an interview administered by a Social Security Administration agent. After the interview, several factors are considered during the evaluation. Some of these factors include the provided medical records, history evidence physical and whether the applicant has worked in a field that is covered by Social Security. Additionally, the applicant's ability to return to work opposed to receiving disability is also considered.
