How to Read Go Kart Tire Sizes
Recreational vehicles are becoming intensely popular with today’s generation and it is important to know how to properly read go kart tire sizes. Tires found on ATVs and tractors can easily be confused for go kart tires; however, usually the size or density will be able to tell you which recreational vehicle the tire belongs to.
Things You’ll Need:
· Owner’s manual
· Piece of scrap paper & pencil
1. Take one of the go kart’s tires off and locate the tire size. The tire size can be found within the sidewall of the tire. The measurements will look similar to 4.10x3.50-4. If you have the owner’s manual for the go kart, it is also advisable to look to see what the tire sizes are.
2. Figure the approximate height of the tire. This task is simple, because the approximate height will be the first number displayed within the sidewall of the tire. Using 4.10x3.50-4 as an example, the height would be 4.10.
3. Figure the approximate width of the tire. This process will be identical to step two; however, when looking at the tire’s sidewall, take notice of the second number. Again, using 4.10x3.50-4 as an example, the width would be 3.5.
4. Determine the rim size of the tire. The rim size will usually be in inches, depending on the manufacturer of the go kart. To locate the rim size, look inside the tire’s sidewall and locate the last number. With the example 4.10x3.50-4, the number 4 would be the rim size in inches. The rim size is important to know because the tire is to be mounted on top of it.
5. Visit a mechanic. Most mechanics will have some sort of knowledge when it comes to go karts, so if you are unsure of the technique to properly read your go kart tires, then a certified mechanic will be able to help.
