How to Rebuild Antique Ford Cars and Trucks

Rebuilding an antique Ford vehicle can often take many months. If the owner of the car or truck is on a tight budget, rebuilding the Ford a little at a time is an option. It is important to store the antique vehicle in a secure location during the rebuilding process, especially if the owner is not in a hurry to complete the restoration.

  1. Determine what you need to buy in order to rebuild your antique Ford vehicle. Examine the vehicle’s engine and write down the parts that you need to replace. Depending on the year of your antique Ford, you may have to search for awhile to find certain replacement parts.

  2. Check the body of the antique Ford. Look for areas that need resurfacing or painting. If the body of the vehicle is in bad shape, you may need to get a complete paint job after you finish all of the body work and other repairs.

  3. Take your list of engine repairs to a local Ford dealer to see if you can order some of the parts that you need. Go to the parts department and give the list to the clerk. If the clerk cannot help you, find out where to go to buy the parts.

  4. Get some help if you are unable to rebuild the engine on your own. Once you have all of the parts, it may be easier to have a mechanic help you with the engine since you will only have to pay for labor. Try to do the engine work yourself and then consult with a mechanic if you need some extra help.

  5. Remove the exterior areas of the antique Ford that have damage or rust. Contact a body shop if you need assistance with the vehicle. Once you restore the body, move on to the interior of the car before you start to paint the exterior. Replace the seats and redo the flooring if necessary. Once you finish all of the repairs, paint the antique Ford to finish the restoration.
