How to Recycle Moving Boxes
Recycling moving boxes is actually the last step in settling into a new residence. After all your stuff is unpacked, you will probably want to get rid of any evidence that there was ever a move. You can either store them away in your attic or basement or offer them to others to get them out of your sight.
- Reuse them yourself. The easiest way to recycle moving boxes is to store them somewhere you can get to when you need them. You can either choose to break them down for storage, or if you have items you can fill them with, then place them inside and store them away. If you have some extra moving boxes, start looking around your house to see if there are any items you can pack up and move to storage.
- Pack items for shipping inside. If you have larger items to ship, moving boxes might be a good fit. If your item is heavy, choose an economical courier service such as UPS Ground or USPS Parcel Post.
- Shred them and moisten them for composting. If you keep a compost bin, shredded cardboard is a good diet for worms. The worms will chew through the moist cardboard shreds and turn it into compost.
- Let children play with it. Kids love to make impromptu forts out of cardboard and can spend hours constructing new and inventive mazes with them. Donating the boxes to a local school or nursery is an option if you do not have young kids.
- Donate it to a local truck moving company. Moving companies rent moving trucks, but these people also need moving boxes. You can either set the boxes near the entrance, or ask the manager if they have a place to put them.
