How to Reduce Swelling After Lipo
In most medical procedures that involve invasive techniques, there is swelling. Most swelling occurs after the procedure and may be reduced by proper preparation and knowledge about your procedure, paired with the suggested garments and medications prescribed by your doctor.
- Fully disclose your medical history and lifestyle, past and present, with the cosmetic surgeon. It’s important that the surgeon is aware of your past to avoid any complications during the actual procedure. After the surgery, swelling can be affected by factors such as smoking and drinking; drugs, regulated and prohibited, can also be a factor. Doctors can use this information to determine the type of procedure that will work best for your situation. Discuss with your doctor any adverse reactions you have had in the past with anesthesia.
- Discuss the treatment details with your doctor. The types of equipment used can have an effect. Newer techniques, such as laser-assisted liposuction and super-wet liposuction, and new equipment, such as micro cannulas, can greatly reduce swelling.
- Wear compression garments after the surgery. Compression garments are sometimes known as elastic garments, and your doctor may suggest you wear them for a certain amount of time. This helps to lessen any fluid build-up in the area and reduces the internal irritation of the tissue. They also help reduce the amount of bruising that may occur.
- Keep the affected areas elevated if possible.
- Take the antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medications prescribed by your doctor.
